Last evening i made this wonderful Arabic snack falafel filled with nutrients for my kids. They love it cos its not spicy and very tasty too. My son abhinav enjoys this very much.
Very simple to make and very healthy too . Here goes the recipe.
Ingredients:
chick peas (chana) boiled – 1 cup
onion – 1 small
green chilly-1
pepper – 1/4 tsp
cumin – 1/2 tsp
fennel-1/2 tsp
coriander seeds-1/2 tsp
garlic pods-2
celery-a small bunch(1/4 cup will do)
Flour – 1 or 2 tbsp
salt to taste
oil to deep fry.
Procedure:
Blend all the contents in processor to a coarse paste except the floor , i added some moong (green gram)sprouts while grinding to make it more nutritious.If the paste is slightly moist that u cant flatten up and fry it , add some flour to remove excessive moist .The mix should be of dhal vada mix consistency.
I have a mould here to get the right round shape for the fries, take a little mix and fill in the circular mould and remove excess . Then remove it from mould and drop it into hot oil in kadai or frying pan.Fry until golden brown. Yummy yummy falafel is ready.
How falafel is served as sandwich
Take a pitta bread or small kubbos (arabic bread) and cut around the edges , so that u can fill inside, take two falafel, mash them with fork and place it inside the bread , add one tablespoon hummus(cooked chick peas blended with white sesame , garlic pods and olive oil), few green veggies diced (like lettuce ,cucumber & tomato), few french fries followed by red chilly paste (soaked red chillies in vinegar made into a fine paste along with salt) only if u need it spicy.
This sandwich can be taken as main meal and is very filling and nutritious.
